EXPLORING THE FRONTIER OF THE FUTURE

FRANKFORT, KY (October 14, 1996)--Kentuckians from across the Commonwealth will convene at the Louisville Hyatt Regency on November 12 to explore the frontier of the future. The third annual conference of the Kentucky Long-Term Policy Research Center will explore trends and issues influencing the future of the Commonwealth. This conference is designed to bring Kentucky's leaders and concerned citizens together to explore the implications of various trends affecting the Commonwealth. Exploring the Frontier of the Future promises to be a landmark event, one that will feature some of the Commonwealth's leading thinkers and innovators. They will address some of the most difficult challenges before us, chart the problems and opportunities they anticipate on the horizon, and speculate on what the future is likely to hold. The alternative scenarios they suggest will provide provocative food for thought and unprecedented opportunity to think and plan more effectively for what lies ahead for Kentucky.

Some of the featured speakers include Governor Paul Patton and the Leadership of Kentucky's General Assembly, who will offer perspectives on the future before the Commonwealth. Dr. James Klotter, the State Historian, will open the day-long session with a provocative presentation, "Past as Prologue," that will trace the historical roots of the challenges that remain with us. Former Governors of Kentucky will participate jointly in a lively lunch-time discussion of the progress we have made and the obstacles we must overcome to ready Kentucky for the 21st Century.

There will be a number of provocative presentations on the future of Kentucky's economy, social structure, environment, and education system. Some of the questions to be explored include: What will tomorrow's economy hold for Kentucky and Kentuckians? Where will technological innovations lead us? How will education and training change? How will Kentucky's families fare in the future? What lies ahead for the citizens and the communities of tomorrow? What progress are we making toward environmental quality and sustainability?

The conference will take place on Tuesday, November 12, 1996, from 8:30 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. at the Hyatt Regency Louisville, located in the heart of downtown Louisville at 320 West Jefferson Street. To register, contact the Kentucky Long-Term Policy Research Center at 1024 Capital Center Dr., Suite 310, Frankfort, KY 40601, by phone (502-573-2851, 800-853-2851), or by fax (502-573-1412, 800-383-1412). There is a $25 fee but the Center will waive the fee if it presents an obstacle to attendance. Coffee, refreshments, and lunch will be served.
